From The Ashes of War
Survivors from Hammer and Sickle: The dream of rebirth
FROM THE ASHES OF WAR is a historical documentary about the military, civil servants, and citizens of the Republic of Vietnam before and 50 years after the Vietnam War ended on April 30, 1975. The film chronicles the historical events that led to the fall of the South Vietnamese government, as recounted by living witnesses, former soldiers and officials, and analyzed by Vietnamese and American scholars. The film reconstructs real stories of the hardships endured by South Vietnamese soldiers, officials, and their families under the communist regime, the steep price they paid in their pursuit of freedom, the remarkable growth of the Vietnamese communities abroad, and their enduring hope for a future Vietnam that is free, just, and prosperous.
FROM THE ASHES OF WAR captures a segment of modern Vietnamese history through film, encapsulating the painful experience of losing their homeland and the success of these exiled individuals in free societies abroad, along with their hopes for future generations.
Understanding history to avoid repeating past mistakes is essential for a nation to rise.
