Rumble in the Bronx

No Fear. No Stuntman. No Equal.

The Rio Theatre‘s Friday Late Night Movie series continues on April 14 with the Vancouver-lensed action smash that properly introduced the iconic actor and martial artist Jackie Chan to Western audiences, RUMBLE IN THE BRONX.

Hong Kong policeman Keung (Chan) arrives in New York (but really, it’s Vancouver… mountains!) for the wedding of his uncle Bill, a grocer who recently sold his Bronx store to the fetching Elaine. After a biker gang bursts into the store to wreak havoc, Keung springs into action, giving up his vacation to defend the weak and protect the innocent with his extraordinary martial arts skills. As Keung investigates local gangs, he learns more about a criminal syndicate that needs to be brought to justice. With Anita Mui, Bill Tung.

“For once a film’s ad line has a whiff of truth about it: ‘No Fear. No Stuntman. No Equal.'” (Los Angeles Times)

“As the guy who cleans up a ghetto, helps a crippled kid and does battle with a rampaging Hovercraft, Chan shows off the muscle of a superhero and the charm of a deft comedian.” (TIME Magazine)

“The whole point is Jackie Chan – and, like Astaire and Rogers, he does what he does better than anybody.” (Roger Ebert)
