Dearest Friends and Rio Family: Effective immediately. we will be temporarily dimming our lights and powering down the projector. Some events are being postponed, and others canceled – we will do our best to connect with ticket-holders and advise them of future plans as soon as they are made clear to us. In the meantime, stay safe out there! We’ll let you know when we’re able to start buttering your popcorn again, and we look forward to seeing you then. We’re gonna get through this, people! Until then, lots of love from everyone at the Rio. xoxox
“Nothing spreads like fear.”
Seems like everybody’s talking about Steven Soderbergh‘s 2011 sci-fi thriller CONTAGION right now. And since we at the Rio Theatre are firm believers in the absolute power and social importance of the communal cinema-going experience, we felt the time was right for a big-screen revisit – and have added this eerily timely (if not weirdly prophetic) title to our calendar on Friday, March 20.
CONTAGION follows the rapid progress of a lethal airborne virus that kills within days. As the fast-moving epidemic grows, the worldwide medical community races to find a cure and control the panic that spreads faster than the virus itself. At the same time, ordinary people struggle to survive in a society coming apart. Soderbergh put together an all-star cast of Hollywood A-listers for this one, including Matt Damon, Kate Winslet, Gwyneth Paltrow, Marion Cotillard, Laurence Fishburne, Jude Law, and others.
