Jérémy Clapin hits a home run with this wildly original animated feature. I Lost My Body portrays a young man in search of himself – literally. It’s the story of Naoufel, told from the perspective of his severed hand, which has escaped from a lab and is now winding its way through Paris on a quest for reattachment. Standing in its way are some pretty fearsome obstacles, but the hand is persistent – and it sure knows how to fight back. Its journey through the city is interspersed with flashbacks, which fill out the rich backstory bit by bit…
Shifting from romance to action to body horror with exhilarating panache, Clapin maintains an atmosphere of mystery and wonder. This is an exquisitely structured film – one as remarkable for its storytelling as for its visual qualities.
“One of the most original and creative animated features I’ve ever seen… It’s that rare cinematic experience whose every second feels like a discovery.” – Peter Debruge, Variety
