“The only good bug, is a dead bug.”
Inexplicably, Paul Verhoeven‘s 1997 work of futuretastic sci-fi fantasy, STARSHIP TROOPERS – a movie about humans in a fascistic, militaristic future doing battle with giant alien bugs in a fight for survival – has become a cult-favourite. This means that it is best appreciated on the big screen, among friends, mildly inebriated (probably), and with the Gentlemen Hecklers on hand to provide live, hilarious commentary.
Casper Van Dien, Denise Richards, Neil Patrick Harris, Dina Meyer, Jake Busey, Michael Ironside and Rue McLanahan (!) star in and the distant future, the Earth is at war with a race of giant alien insects. Little is known about the Bugs except that they are intent on the eradication of all human life. But there was a time before the war… A Mobile Infantry travels to distant alien planets to take the war to the Bugs. They are a ruthless enemy with only one mission: Survival of their species no matter what the cost…
Eric Fell, Patrick Maliha, Gina Harms and K.C. Novak are Vancouver’s masters of movie riffing, making ‘so-bad-they’re-good’ movies even better by talking you through them – providing live, hilarious commentary – for the best bad movies!
Over the past six years, The Gentlemen Hecklers have built up a loyal cult following in Vancouver, and recently brought their talents to a wider audience thanks to the critically acclaimed Mystery Science Theater 3000 episode “Cry Wilderness” on Netflix.
