Directed by Michael Showalter (WET HOT AMERICAN SUMMER) and based on the real-life love story of comedian Kumail Nanjiani (SILICONE VALLEY) and comedy writer Emily Gordon (who also both co-wrote the script), THE BIG SICK quietly emerged as one of the sleeper hits of 2017. Nanjiani stars here as a Pakistani comic who meets an American graduate student named Emily (Zoe Kazan) at one of his stand-up shows. As their relationship blossoms, he soon becomes worried about what his traditional Muslim parents will think of her. When Emily suddenly comes down with an illness that leaves her in a coma, Kumail finds himself developing a bond with her deeply concerned mother and father. With Holly Hunter and Ray Romano.
“Comedian and actor Kumail Nanjiani and writer Emily V. Gordon mine their personal history for laughs, heartache, and hard-earned insight.” (Variety)
