Chris Christie & Jean-Francois Plouffe
Join Chris Christie and Jean Francois Plouffe for a presentation on their 15 day Stand up Paddle Board Expedition to Bella Coola with a short film and still images from this 240km Coastal Journey.
The idea of combining skiing, river paddling, ocean touring to the outer coast and surf brought our crew together to hatch a plan for the best possible location that would give us a real wilderness experience and challenge our decision making in a wild location. Bella Coola was the obvious choice with some of the best ski mountaineering in the world with it’s long valleys and rivers providing an artery to the ocean and the fjords to the outer coast and surf.
The question was : Would the environment allow such a journey. The location is known for huge late season winter storms and unpredictable winds that even the most seasoned fisherman avoid, especially in the winter. We had to find out!
The past few years Chris Christie has balanced the experience the mountains provide with exploring the waters, rivers and oceans surrounding the West Coast. His hometown is located in the Southern Most Fjord in North America where long Sup circuits are always a mental and physical challenge. The strong summer winds give amazing downwind opportunities and the rivers run fast and steep. The cold surf in Tofino gives incredible variety to paddle sport in Western Canada!
JF brings a wealth of experience and certifications to coaching triathlons, climbing, mountain biking, white water canoeing, kayaking, snowboarding, diving, advanced wilderness first aid and leading multi-day expeditions on an international scale. He is also working at Quest University Canada. JF hopes that his adventurers, positive energy and determination will inspire people to get out there and connect with the environments they live in. He wants to encourage people of all abilities to make the most of the nature around them and create their own unique adventures.
He spends his spare time climbing in the mountains and discovering rivers and ocean shores on his paddle board. When JF is not spending time outdoors, he is either recharging his batteries by eating lots of spinach and power cookies, or in a coffee shop writing down his future goals for the next adventure. He lives by the motto: live the life you have always imagined.
