MY NEIGHBORS THE YAMADAS (Isao Takahata, 1999 / DCP / Subtitled 104 mins / PG) | The life and misadventures of a family in contemporary Japan.

SPIRITED AWAY (Hayao Miyazaki, 2001 DCP / Subtitled, 125 mins) | During her family’s move to the suburbs, a sullen 10-year-old girl wanders into a world ruled by gods, witches, and monsters, and where humans are changed into beasts.

The Yamadas are a typical middle class Japanese family in urban Tokyo and this film shows us a variety of episodes of their lives. With tales that range from the humourous to the heartbreaking, we see this family cope with life’s little conflicts, problems and joys in their own way.
