Studio Ghibli Night: Grave of the Fireflies

Since our Wednesday, May 6 double bill featuring Hayao Miyazaki’s beloved MY NEIGHBOUR TOTORO (1988) and Isao Takahata’s hauntingly beautiful GRAVE OF THE FIREFLIES (1988) almost *sold out,* we decided to add more screenings of these two titles on Sunday, May 10. Even better: We’re bringing PRINCESS MONONOKE back, too. All films will be screened in the original Japanese with English subtitles.

MY NEIGHBOUR TOTORO (Hayao Miyazaki, 1988 / DCP / 89 minutes) | When two girls move to the country to be near their ailing mother, they have adventures with the wonderous forest spirits who live nearby.

GRAVE OF THE FIREFLIES (Isao Takahata, 1988 / DCP / Subtitled / 89 minutes) | A tragic film covering a young boy and his little sister’s struggle to survive in Japan during World War II.

PRINCESS MONONOKE (Hayao Miyazaki, 1997, / DCP / Subtitled / 137 minutes) | On a journey to find the cure for a Tatarigami’s curse, Ashitaka finds himself in the middle of a war between the forest gods and Tatara, a mining colony. In this quest he also meets San, the Mononoke Hime.
