Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story

The Rio Theatre has the cure for what ails you on Saturday, January 1. We are kicking off a fresh and shiny, brand-spankin’ new 2022 with our annual Holiday Hangover Marathon Movie Day, a tradition that (this year) will feature MONTY PYTHON AND THE HOLY GRAIL, WALK HARD: THE DEWEY COX STORY, THE BIG LEBOWSKI (every year, dude!), and PULP FICTION.

You can see one, or roll with us all darn day for one sweeeet price. (Yes, you read that right, Ringo.)

Following a childhood tragedy, Dewey Cox (John C. Reilly, in a Golden Globe-nominated performance) finds himself on an epic, long and winding road to music stardom. Dewey perseveres through changing musical styles, an addiction to nearly every drug known and bouts of uncontrollable rage, until finally, he wins the heart, but not necessarily the body, of his loyal backup singer, Darlene (Jenna Fischer). With Kristen Wiig, Tim Meadows, Paul Rudd, David Krumholtz.

The Little Hours

The Little Hours

Alison Brie, Aubrey Plaza and Kate Micucci star as a trio of nuns (think MEAN GIRLS with a fetch habit) in Jeff Baena’s (LIFE AFTER BETH, I HEART HUCKABEES) THE LITTLE HOURS, a ribald romp about a young servant who flees from his master and takes refuge at a convent full of emotionally unstable nuns… Continue Reading

Step Brothers

Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly star as Brennan Huff and Dale Doback, two kind loser-ish grown, unemployed man-children who have something in common: they live at home. When their respective parents meet and decide to get married, they are forced to become roommates, and turn into jealous, competitive, and very territorial stepbrothers. Brennan’s constant… Continue Reading

Boogie Nights

“We’re about to make film history, right here… on videotape. “ Writer-director Paul Thomas Anderson made an impression with his 1996 feature debut, HARD EIGHT, but it was his sophomore effort in 1997, BOOGIE NIGHTS that really cemented his career and place in Hollywood. Set in California’s San Fernando Valley in 1977, the story centres… Continue Reading

The Lobster

The Lobster

Visionary Oscar-winning Greek director Yorgos Lanthimos (THE FAVOURITE, DOGTOOTH) has mastered the art of applying a surreal, absurdist lens to his narrative features, creating stories and characters that exist within their own unique worlds. Given all the “strange” social conventions of late, we felt the time was right to revisit 2015’s sweetly twisted and very… Continue Reading
