The Gentlemen Hecklers Present: The Wizard (1989)

Dust your Power Glove off and fire up Double Dragon, because The Gentleman Hecklers are bringing the Nintendo-lovin’ 80s kids movie THE WIZARD to the big screen on Wednesday, May 10.

Fred Savage stars as Corey (it was the 80s… of course he was a Corey!), a kid who refuses to let his younger, emotionally disturbed half-brother Jimmy (Luke Edwards) be institutionalized, opting instead to run away together.  (This could be construed as kidnapping but… Let the Hecklers discuss it.) They soon join forces with a resourceful girl (Jenny Lewis, in her pre-Rilo Kiley days), who notices that Jimmy has a special talent: he is a “wizard” at video games, and can achieve the high score on absolutely everything he plays. Evading their parents and a sinister bounty hunter, the trio hitchhike their way across America as they head for a climactic showdown at the national video game championship – and $50,000 – in California.

Let The Gentlemen Hecklers provide you with their unique brand of live, hilarious commentary – for the best cheesy movies! Eric Fell, Patrick Maliha, and Shaun Stewart are Vancouver’s masters of movie riffing, making so-bad-they’re-good movies even better by talking you through them.

“What is your damage, Heather?” Dear Diary, Long before MEAN GIRLS… There was HEATHERS. Winona Ryder, Christian Slater and Shannen Doherty shine in one of the 1980s most infinitely quotable films, a viciously funny yet insightful black comedy that satirizes the messy (and sometimes deadly) politics of female friendship, young love, cliquedom, and croquet during… Continue Reading

True Romance

Before becoming one of contemporary cinema’s most acclaimed and culturally relevant directors, Quentin Tarantino had a little luck penning some scripts that would eventually be made into cult-classics by Tony Scott and Oliver Stone. Both offbeat and romantic (not to mention ultra-violent) road trip flicks, TRUE ROMANCE and NATURAL BORN KILLERS are getting the back-to-back… Continue Reading
