Forty years ago this month Curtis Salgado waltzed into Vancouver with Robert Cray. Two twenty four year olds touring and playing their favourite blues of yesteryear. After five years Cray and Salgado parted ways with Robert moving onto stardom and for Curtis the long journey to gain respect. A partnership that worked well with Lloyd Jones, three years as lead vocalist with Roomful Of Blues, tours with Steve Miller Band as a vocalist and some selective touring with Carlos Santana were the high points but their were many potholes along the way. Curtis by now had formed a hard hitting soul/blues unit called The Stilettos and started releasing albums on small labels with a mixture of his own compositions in the deep soul and blues traditions. Just as things started to gel Salgado was struck with liver cancer in 2006, lung cancer in 2008 and again in 2012. If that was not enough, Curtis underwent a quadruple by pass last March and 2 months later was performing at The Blues Awards in Memphis where he scooped 3 Blues Awards. Best soul blues album, best soul blues singer and best song of the year.

Curtis is a soul survivor and his resilience can be heard on the newly released album with guitarist Alan Hager that raced to #2 on Billboard’s Blues Charts a week after its release. Both Curtis and Alan will perform as a duo and also with the full band. They say ‘You can’t keep a good man down’  www.curtissalgado.com

Opening will be the great Mojo Stars led by Mark Rankin and Randy Clarke who also have released the recent “Under The Influence”  www.themojostars.com  Grab your seats early and be prepared to boogie.
